Fall Seasonal Style: Festbier

Writer's picture: AZ BrewsAZ Brews

It's time to brew a Festbier or Marzen..

This post presents a nice video overview of the Festbier style, the same one served in the tents at Oktoberfest in Munich.

From the BJCP:

A smooth, clean, pale German lager with a moderately strong malty flavor and a light hop character. Deftly balances strength and drinkability, with a palate impression and finish that encourages drinking. Showcases elegant German malt flavors without becoming too heavy or filling.

There's still time to brew a Festbier! Look at our recent posts about the NovaLager yeast that can turn out a decent lager in 2 weeks!

Going to brew my second batch of Novalager fest beer this weekend! It is Aug 19 so plenty of time for it to be ready in time for fest season with this yeast!

Seems crazy that it ferments so clean and quick. These beers are typically brewed in March then aged in caves until mid September! OK, maybe they use refrigeration nowadays :)
