If you are familiar with Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday, you know it's the last day to party and imbibe before the Lenten season of fasting begins. Obviously this takes place most spectacularly in New Orleans, but it occurs across the world as well.
Mardi Gras usually involves rich and hearty gumbos, beignets, lots of alcohol and all types of debauchery, including bead-for-boob-flashing trades....
In the Polish community, Fat Tuesday is called Paczki Day in honor of a tasty doughnut-type pastry often stuffed with custard or a fruit filling. They are delicious and I highly recommend trying one on Fat Tuesday. Locally in AZ you can find them at Bashas grocery store.
Well apparently a clever brewery out of Detroit (Eastern Market Brewing Co.) has created a beer version of the jelly doughnut. Crazy idea but still seems pretty genius! In fact On Feb. 18, the brewery will be hosting a Paczki Block Party in partnership with Detroit City Distillery.
The beer style is listed as "Blueberry or Raspberry Pastry Inspired Blonde Ale". Not sure how that would work, but I would try it for sure... Watch a video of the story here
According to the brewery, "This is the third year in a row that we've doubled production, and we still anticipate selling out. Our 2023 version of Paczki Beer is at another level with a second flavor and redesigned labels, plus real vanilla cream and 42.5 lbs of real fruit per barrel of beer. Kudos to our entire team for making something great, even better," Pauline Knighton-Prueter, vice president of sales & marketing, said in a statement."
Looks like they aren't the only ones!
