Brew Year's Resolutions

John M

I recently watched an episode of the Brulosophy You Tube channel where they described their brewing resolutions for the new year:

I am not much about making New Year's resolutions (...I think I made it until noon on New Year's Day last year for my attempt at "dry January!"), but, inspired by the great folks at Brulosophy, thought that in the spirit of the season it would be a good time to reflect on 2024 and my brewing goals for 2025.

Of all the beers I brewed in the past year, I would say that the two that really stood out were my Munich Dunkel (https://www.seasonsofthebrew.com/post/fall-dunkel) and my Spring Saison (https://www.seasonsofthebrew.com/post/spring-saison). I had a few others that were very solid and maybe a couple of others that were not fully dialed in. Anyway, this got me thinking that for 2025 I would like to really focus on really dialing in 4 beers - one for each season (this is "Seasons of the Brew" after all!).

Based on my results from the past year, I have two picks to start with! While I originally brewed the dunkel for Fall, I think I am going to switch this one to my winter seasonal. I'll stick with the Saison for the Spring, so that just leaves Summer and Fall. My aspiration for 2025 will be to dial in a light Czech pale lager for summer and maybe a Fest Beer or Amber ale for Fall. I wasn't fully satisfied with the results of my Czech lager or Fest Beer this past year, so it looks like I have some work to do!

What are your Brew Year's Resolutions for 2025? Cheers and Happy New Year!

I like the idea of getting 4 recipes locked-in, one for each season. Good luck! I may try to do the same - Saison, German Pilsner, Helles Bock, DunkleWeizen

I was also thinking about 1) being sure to take more detailed brewing notes to help make it easier to replicate (or change) a recipe and 2) Design a split batch experiment whereby one beer is served on the yeast and the other is transferred to a purged serving keg
